Is Marriage a Failed Institution? (Proverbs 5:19)

An Alternative to Traditional Marriage Counseling

Many of our young people today have looked around and come to a conclusion that marriage is a failed institution. No, not all young people have come to this conclusion, but many because of what they have witnessed as a child, have a tainted view of this God-given institution.

While many marriage conference speakers and preachers are loudly proclaiming the blessings of marriage, some actually think that God has played some type of cosmic joke on mankind by giving us marriage. Let me bring a little clarity to this picture.

If you buy a car and you fail to drive the car properly, who is at fault? Is there a problem with the manufacturer or the person that is driving the car? Does the problem lie with the car itself or the owner of the vehicle? The answer is obvious, isn’t it?

The same is true with marriage. Marriage is a wonderful, God-given institution that was created to be enjoyed to the max! In reality, the most fulfilling relationship that we are to have with another human being is to be with our spouse.

My wife and I, at one time, settled for second best as far as marriage is concerned. We had a difficult first year of marriage, and we survived by succumbing to the idea that marriage was just 2 people peacefully cohabitating together for the purpose of financial security and procreation. Sounds sophisticated, but we were just surviving at least.

Then, one day, we discovered the Proverbs 5:19 principle. This scripture tells us, in “layman’s terms”, that marriage is to be enjoyed to the max!! This started a journey that has allowed us to not only help ourselves, but also many others.
