Spending Time with Children
Is this a common occurrence in your home?
Son: Dad.
Dad: Yes, son?
Son: Whatcha doin?
Dad: Nothing.
Son: What’s the hammer for?
Dad: Nothing, I’m just trying to get this job done.
Son: Why?
Dad: I just need to get it done. Now, go out and play!
Son: But, I don’t know what to do.
Dad: Just go, son, I’m busy!!
Be careful. If your children are constantly begging for your attention, one day, you’ll probably be begging for theirs!
There’s really only one way to spell love with children. That’s T-I-M-E. I have never heard of anyone lying on their death bed and saying things like, “I wish I would have been able to invest more in the stock market.”, “I wish we could have lived in a bigger house.”, or “I wish I would have gotten that promotion in 1974.”
Actually, most of the time people say things like this, “I wish I would have been a better father.”, “I wish I would have been a better spouse”, or “I wish I would have spent more time with my children.”
Time is a very precious commodity. Once you spend it, you can never get it back again. Can I ask you a question? How are you investing your time? Is it in your children, or in your own personal pursuits in life.
Some parents say things like, “Well, I just have so much work to do.”. Do you? Do you need that addition on your house, or do you just want that addition on your house? Do you need that new (or newer) car, or do you just want that new car?
One of our greatest investments are our children? However, you do not get much of a yield if you do not invest your T-I-M-E into them.
